Uninhabited islands in the archipelago are generally protected by the National Parks trust of Kanto and the Orange Islands. Trainers must apply for a permit before entering them with the intention of catching Pokémon. They are closely guarded by rangers, who regularly check tickets and permits, as well as looking after the resident Pokémon. Permits cost a yearly or monthly small subscription, the proceeds of which go towards maintenance of the parks. There is a surcharge for entry to the popular Pinkan Island due to the rare and coveted nature of the Pokémon there.
